Unfortunately not always with the answers we want to hear like running the audio engine at lower sample rate, raising buffer/latency, keeping samples small and stretching, limiting voices of polyphony, etc. App developers have been very clever in the way they they've dealt with weak CPU, minuscule RAM, and limited storage. But Apple does always recommend latest version of iOS and they do cut off iOS updates to older hardware. Or are they more interested in providing apps that run on the widest range of available devices? The iPad Pro has been out for a while now but we haven't seen a Mainstage-like app yet. I suggest you try the pianoteq demo, as it is synth not sample it won't eat up your harddrive and you can try several pianos from the one download. You can radically change the tonality, width and reverb of the pianos in all these engines.
A good graded hammer action 88 key keyboard should be considered for any expensive library. If I wanted purely piano stuff that is what I would get. Pianoteq offers lots of Piano (all synthesized) plenty of freebies too: Komplete has some great Rock organs and electronic pianos too. Kontakt5 (and Komplete) offers lots of options to name one player. Most sample pianos work in both 32bit and 64bit. Several ST3 pianos are aimed at bright punchy Pop/Rock production or uprights for smaller scale, less clean presentation. Staying with low cost full sampleTank 3 has multiple pianos. Was that a typo or are you seriously asking if you can better a freebie with $300 or £300? of course you can!
There is a decent piano in the sampletank 3 freebie but I am wondering how much better it gets from than that. What are some of the better piano vst under say 300 and 32 bit? Rock is the usual style.
